With a wide range of therapies available close to home, we provide reliable, patient-centered care for every stage of recovery.

Key Physical Therapy Services

Our physical therapy team provides care that supports healing, restores movement, and improves daily function. These core services reflect the most common needs we see in our community and offer patients clear, accessible pathways to recovery.

Pre-Surgical Preparation

We provide pre-habilitation visits that help strengthen the body before surgery. These sessions focus on reducing pain or swelling, improving range of motion, and supporting healthy blood flow. Patients also receive instruction on what to expect during post-surgical therapy.

Back Pain Care

We offer care for acute and chronic low back pain to help patients return to their daily tasks and recreational activities. Treatment focuses on functional movement, pain reduction, and improved strength.

Aquatic Therapy

Aquatic therapy offers skilled rehabilitation in a gravity-reduced environment. This option is ideal for patients who benefit from controlled, low-impact movement due to injury, pain, or limited mobility.

Balance and Fall Prevention

Balance testing and retraining help reduce fall risk and support safe mobility. Therapy focuses on restoring coordination, confidence, and overall stability.

Rehabilitation Programs

Orthopaedic Rehabilitation

We treat a full range of muscle, joint, and bone injuries, including sprains, strains, and post-operative recovery. Care includes ligament and tendon repairs of the shoulder, elbow, knee, and ankle, as well as total joint replacement rehabilitation for the hip, knee, and shoulder.

Neurological Rehabilitation

Our team supports patients managing stroke, multiple sclerosis, peripheral neuropathy, spinal cord injury, head injury, and vertigo. Therapy is designed to improve mobility, strength, coordination, and independence.

Pediatric Therapy

We provide physical therapy for children with developmental delays, gross motor challenges, or orthopaedic injuries. Care is individualized to support safe movement, strength, and motor skill development.

Pelvic Health

We offer treatment for pelvic or low-back pain related to childbirth, surgery, aging, or prostatectomy. Care includes muscle and joint therapy along with personalized exercise programs for patients of all ages. Pelvic floor therapy is also available for incontinence and pelvic pain.

Specialized Treatments

LSVT BIG & LOUD

This program supports individuals experiencing tremors, slow movement, stiffness, reduced balance, or vocal challenges. Therapy helps patients move with larger, more purposeful motions and speak with stronger, clearer volume.

Computerized extremity testing helps assess strength and power for patients returning to work or athletics. This technology also supports individualized exercise programs.

We offer custom foot and arch supports designed to reduce stress on the lower extremities and spine.

Therapy focuses on strength, mobility, balance, and proper use of a new prosthetic. We also coordinate with local prosthetic laboratories as needed.

Throwing, running, and jump/landing techniques are assessed to reduce injury risk and support safer training for athletes.

Testing and treatment help address vertigo, spinning sensations, and unsteadiness in walking or balance.

Therapeutic dry needling uses fine-gauge needles to address myofascial trigger points in chronic conditions. It is used alongside other therapy methods when appropriate.

Physical Therapy Protocols

Total Hip Arthroplasty Protocol – Dr. Lawrence

Patients complete a home exercise program starting at hospital discharge and continue until their two-week orthopedic follow-up. Outpatient physical therapy typically begins at that time, with sessions once per week until the six-week follow-up. Frequency may be adjusted based on progress.

Patients complete a home exercise program until their two-week orthopedic visit, followed by outpatient physical therapy evaluation and a six-week follow-up. Therapy frequency varies based on progress and patient preference. Restrictions include avoiding combined hip extension with external rotation for six weeks post-operation.

Total knee arthroplasty, or total knee replacement, is a procedure used to replace a damaged knee joint when pain and loss of function no longer respond to non-surgical treatments. During surgery, the ends of the femur and tibia are resurfaced with metal implants, and a plastic spacer is placed between them to support smooth movement.

Patients typically begin with a home exercise program after discharge, followed by outpatient physical therapy at their two-week orthopedic visit. Therapy focuses on improving strength, range of motion, and safe mobility. Frequency of sessions may be adjusted based on progress and individual needs.

FAQ

What does physical therapy at Vernon Health involve?

Physical therapy begins with an evaluation to understand your needs, symptoms, and goals. Your therapist then creates a personalized plan that may include exercises, hands-on care, education, or specialized treatments based on the type of injury or condition.

What is the difference between Occupational Therapy (OT) and Physical Therapy (PT)?

Many people search for the difference between OT and PT because the services often work closely together. Physical Therapy focuses on improving movement, strength, and mobility after an injury, surgery, or medical condition. Occupational Therapy helps patients return to everyday activities such as dressing, bathing, working, or managing home tasks by improving functional skills and adapting routines when needed. Both therapies support recovery, but PT centers on how the body moves, while OT focuses on how you safely and independently complete daily activities.

What conditions do you treat?

We support patients recovering from muscle, bone, and joint injuries; neurological conditions; developmental delays; chronic pain; balance concerns; and post-surgical needs. All services are based on the offerings described in our therapy list.

What can I expect during my first visit?

Your therapist will review your medical history, assess your movement, and discuss your goals. Together, you’ll create a clear plan for treatment, frequency, and expected progress.

Do you offer specialized therapies?

Yes. We offer aquatic therapy, LSVT BIG & LOUD, vestibular rehabilitation, prosthetic training, orthotic casting, dry needling, and sports mechanics analysis, based entirely on the services listed in the legacy copy.
